With 65 members in attendance (10% of our total membership), the new Executive for 2013-2015 was decided at the general members meeting last night (November 13, 2013)

Just a reminder to all of our members that this fall is election time again! Take some time to consider the current executive and/or which members you think will represent the membership best. All offices are up for election. Nominations will be in October and the voting will take place in November.
At the Ratification meeting, our contract proposals were presented to the members in attendance by Fred Blake. Discussion and Questions were fielded from the floor. The members in attendance voted in favor of accepting the terms of the new contract. This contract will be in place until June 30, 2014. Highlights from the memorandum include a raise in shoe allowance from $70 to $110 per year. Although we were not able to get a raise in base pay, we did get 2 lump sum payments to be paid out in September 2013 and January 2014. We were able to get one bereavement day for the part timers (until now they had none). Small steps, but at least they go forward and not backwards!

We have elected our 2012 Negotiations Committee. Our current contract ends as of June 30, 2012. We will still abide by the language of that agreement until we have a new contract in place. We hope to start negotiations as early as this summer, but don't expect to have a final draft until Pay Equity is completed.

The Pay Equity Committee is made up of members of the executive - according to the collective agreement. There are 2 parts to the process and each part will be handled by 3 different executive. The first process is handled by the "Rating Committee", this will involve a review of job descriptions and processes and assigning numbers to each one using a pre-established rating scale. This committee is represented by Cathy Mclean, James Bergeron and Cheryl Senay. The second process is handled by the "Steering Committee", this process involves assigning weights to each job (an established program is used for this process as well), and comparing the different jobs according to weights.This committee is represented by Cindy Morton, Michelle Peckham and Nicole Prendergast. Management and HR will have representatives on each committee as well. This is a joint process by union and management. This process could take up to a year to complete, at which point the results will be posted in each unit, as well as on the website.
